Eye Testing

House of Eyes Kallangur has the latest in diagnostic equipment to provide a full and comprehensive consultation.

Diabetic Eye Examinations

It is recommended that all diabetic patients have an eye test at least every 12 months (sometimes more frequently). At this consultation, it is highly recommended to have drops put in to dilate your pupils so that a better view of the back of your eye is obtained. The drops will make your vision bright and blurry for about 4-6 hours and you should not drive while the drops are still in effect. So it is recommended that you should bring some sunglasses and a driver. You will need to allow about an hour for the appointment. In conjunction with a diabetic eye examination, it is highly recommended to have retinal imaging and OCT retinal scanning performed.

Children’s Vision Assessment

The assessment of children’s vision varies from child to child, depending on their age and maturity. At the House of Eyes, we tailor our consultations to suit your child’s individual needs. There is no age too young to test a child’s vision, but information that can be obtained will vary. Don’’t be worried if your child does not know their letters, or you think they will not be able to answer questions properly, we have plenty of tests up our sleeve to get what we need.

Retinal Imaging

Our retinal camera allows us to take images of the back of your eye. This technology allows us to monitor for changes to your eye health over time. This test is recommended for:

  • New Patients as a baseline
  • Diabetics
  • Patients with progressive eye conditions such as glaucoma or macular degeneration
  • Patients with high blood pressure

This test is worth $20 and is included in your schedule fee. A copy of your images will be provided for you and will be kept on file for future reference.

OCT Retinal Scanning

An optical coherence tomography scan (commonly referred to as an OCT) is the latest piece of technology used to detect eye disease. It sends light to the back of the eye and monitors the reflection as it comes back. This allows the machine to achieve a high resolution image of the individual layers of the retina. This test is recommended for patients who:

  • Have a family history of macular degeneration or glaucoma
  • Are suspicious for glaucoma
  • Are sufferers of macular degeneration or glaucoma
  • Are diabetic
  • Have reduced vision of an unknown cause

This test is non-invasive, painless and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. Results are available instantly. OCT retinal scans are worth $60 and are included in your scheduled fee. A copy of the results will be provided for you and will be kept on file for future reference.

Corneal Topography

A corneal topographer allows us to map the curvature of the front surface of the eye (the cornea). The measurement is carried out in seconds and is completely painless. This test is vitally important in contact lens fitting and assessment prior to laser refractive surgery.

Corneal topography is included in our contact lens fitting consultation fee but otherwise the fee is $40.

Contact Lens Consultations

Contact lenses can offer superior convenience to glasses for many reasons. These include:

  • Better peripheral vision
  • Better vision for sport and leisure
  • Can be worn occasionally or full time

Before starting a contact lens fitting, you will need a full comprehensive eye examination to assess your vision and eye health to ensure you are suitable for contact lenses. This will also include a discussion to talk about the best contact lenses for your lifestyle. If everything looks good, you can proceed to the contact lens fitting.
